With still a few small amounts to come, we are able to confirm this year’s Pink Weekend, raising funds for cancer charities, has surpassed a record £20100. This takes the total raised by Batley Bulldogs supporters and friends over five years to beyond an absolutely incredible £71000.
The initiative is the project of Beverley Nicholas, wife of Bulldogs’ Chairman Kevin, with the first events taking place in 2014. Since then we’ve had sponsored walks, player calendars, family fun days, afternoon tea and of course the infamous Ducking Stool! The team have played one game each of the five seasons in a specially designed Pink Kit which has then been auctioned to raise further monies.
Beverley is understandably thrilled with the latest acheivements
“Well what can I say? Apart from the fact that we have the most amazing fans in Rugby League, How can I say that, easy!
“There is no Ruby League club that we know of that has raised such an amount in just 5 years.
Yes they have fund raising days raising money for various charities which is great but we have continued to hold our Pink Weekend each year and each year it just gets better and better and I call it Our Pink Weekend because it is thanks to everyone at our Club who have been involved by sponsoring, donating, walking, cake making and cake eating, gin drinking, being dunked and generally supporting such a great cause.
All these companies agreed for their logos on the Pink kits without hesitation and a big Thank You to them all.
As I have said previously, Morley Waste Traders have sponsored the kit for the past 5 years and again their generosity is wonderful. All the Pink kits were again ordered before the kick off and orders for next years kits are already going well, so don’t be left out.
A list of walkers for next year’s march to Wembley has already started too, so again get in touch if you’re interested in joining us.
To commemorate the success so far a gallery of the Pink Shirts is now on view in the Bulldogs Bar, waiting to be added to in 2019!
